Our Story
Throughout history God has gathered remnants of His people to come together to carry His heart for specific mandates and purposes. Together they would follow His leading to bring forth breakthrough and victory for a people group, a nation or for an injustice that God wanted to bring His justice to. These remnants of people would follow Him in order to bring victory for the whole. Once again, God is doing this throughout the nations of the world.
In the early 1990s, God put a burden of prayer for the nation of Canada upon a man by the name of Bob Birch. Pastor Bob and a handful of Godly men spent many years praying together with the mandate to “stand on guard” for Canada and to see a righteous inheritance established within the nation. This remnant grew from a few into many thousands of believers that longed to see their nation become a dwelling place for the Lord. This remnant of believers in Canada walks together under the banner of Watchmen for the Nations.
Watchmen for the Nations is a family of believers from many different denominations, ethnic backgrounds, and spheres of influence that span business, arts, educators, media, ministries, politicians, etc.
Throughout the journey in Canada many from different nations around the world have travelled to be part of the Canadian remnant that was birthing God’s original intent for the nation. They were drawn to be a part of something that they knew, by the Spirit, was deep on the heart of the Father.
The Watchmen for the Nations remnant would meet together in different regions/provinces throughout Canada in corporate times of worship, prayer and declarations that were called “Gatherings”. They only gathered when and where the Spirit of the Lord called them to be in order to birth His purposes for that time and in that place. The continual corporate cry was and still is, “to see the glory of God fill the church of Canada like the waters cover the sea.”
In our longing to see the Church become a dwelling place for the glory of the Lord we endeavor to walk in two core beliefs; the first is the prayer of Jesus found in John 17:20-23 that says,
“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.”
The second is that, as believers, we will endeavor to walk in a lifestyle individually and corporately as a family that is yielded to the exhortation found in Revelation 2:29:
“Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”
During these early years, there was always the sense that Canada would become a healing to other nations. With our flag being a maple leaf, Revelation 22:2 speaks of the tree of life and its leaves being for the healing of the nations.
Thus, in 2010 a remnant from the Canadian journey began to walk with a remnant of believers in Asia (mainly Hong Kong and China). This began a journey of seeing the Gatherings go from Canada into the nations. The Gatherings in Asia became known as the “Homecoming Gatherings” (www.asiagathering.hk). They walked in the same values and convictions as the Canadian family. Today the Gatherings have gone to many nations throughout Asia, Europe, Africa, USA and Central America. The global family continues to grow with the same longing to see the Lord have a dwelling place throughout the Earth and to have His family walk in love and unity with one another.
