Day 24 – The God of EternityThursday August 16
A friend of ours had an interesting experience one day. In obedience to the Lord she had gone to a friend’s house to clean it as a blessing for him. He was not a believer and he had struggled through alcohol and drug abuse in his life. But he had a tender heart toward God and always said he believed he was still alive because of the prayers of his Pentecostal grandmother, who had passed away a number of years before.
As our friend was cleaning, she moved aside a pile of papers and a small picture slipped out. It was an old elementary school picture of a small boy. As she turned it over she saw her friend’s name and “10 years old” written in a shaky handwriting. She realized this must have been the picture that her friend’s grandmother had of him. Suddenly, a bar of liquid light appeared spanning the whole room. The Lord spoke to her and said “This is the faith of generations, reach up and take a hold of it.” As she did she was caught up in a vision and she found herself standing in a huge hall with points of light ricocheting everywhere, zinging back and forth with incredible energy. It was like a vacuum – there was no resistance and none of the points of light were losing any energy as they moved.
Then the Lord spoke to her again. “These are the prayers of my saints, spoken in accordance with My Word. I am asking you, in these last days, to reach back into the pages of the spiritual history of your nation and join your hands and your faith with the prayers, faith, worship and prophetic utterances of former generations. Can you not see their hands reaching out to you to carry the burden, to pick up the call? Their cries are ever before Me – they resonate in the heavenlies – the Word that goes forth from My mouth has no end – it finds it completion only in fulfillment.
As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:10-11
Words of God, words of life spoken through generations, continue to speak, looking for agreement, longing for fulfillment.
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. Hebrews 11:1-2
All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. Hebrews 11:13
These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised. God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect. Hebrews 11:39-40
Our God is the God of eternity – He lives outside time as we understand it. His perspective is bigger and higher than ours – He looks beyond our lives as individuals to a corporate body spanning generations. When we accept Christ, we are inextricably linked to a procession of faith stretching back to Abraham. And we become part of a plan of God – that only together with all the saints across ages, will we find completion.
But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness…. 2 Peter 3:8-9
To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven… Ecclesiastes 3:1
God has a plan.
These promises of old, they are not lost, not forgotten. They are hidden in the heart of God and they lie dormant, sleeping, waiting until the time comes for their fulfillment.
God has a plan.
He (Jesus) must remain in heaven until the time comes for God to restore everything, as he promised long ago through his holy prophets. Acts 3:21
What a privilege we have as believers to live at the end of days. For us is given the great honour to see the prayers of generations fulfilled and the faith of generations completed.
As God prepares us to enter the Promised land and possess our inheritance, we are not possessing only for ourselves – but for the procession of faithful men and women who lived in faith and died in faith, never having received what was promised them. As we see His Kingdom established on earth as it is in heaven in this final act of the history of mankind, may we be ever mindful that we are reaping where we did not sow.
Tracy Rahn released an amazing prophetic song about the fulfillment of the promises of God throughout generations. We have combined this song with a few of these declarations from history. Let us listen to this song and make it our own declaration before the Lord that we will join our hands and faith with the faith, the prayers, and the promises of the faithful generations in our families, churches, cities, provinces and nation. May God make us ever mindful of the great cloud of witnesses that surrounds us that we might run with perseverance the race set before us.
He has made everything beautiful in its time. Ecclesiastes 3:11

Let us lift our eyes to heaven at the height of our afflictions; let us remember that God is the witness of our sufferings, and will soon be our exceeding great reward. Let us die in this faith; and let us hope from his goodness the fulfillment of his promises. – Jean le Brebeuf
